Five months later and we finally find ourselves at G -Gardens of Taxco in Hollywood. An obscure little neighborhood place I hadn’t been to for many years but once enjoyed for it’s Kitsch vibe. I would head there on occasion when I was broke and really hungry. They give you lots of food here. Be warned that the margaritas are not made with tequila but with dry vermouth wine, but evidently still tasty enough for us to consume a number of pitchers. Not everyone realized it wasn't tequila until it was mentioned so not a bad sign.
There is no menu to read from so a well rehearsed spoken version is delivered by the waiters. With descriptions like the Chicken ala Crema " so tendered and delicious that it tastes like the chicken was borrrn in the sauce” and the Mole sauce which was “ spiiiiicy, not hot, but spiiiicy" all sounded very tempting.
Our waiter - Jose.
Orders were placed and it seemed like we got one of everything on the spoken menu.
A number of complimentary starters are brought to the table which in my opinion were actually tastier than the main meals. The quesadilla with the fresh guacamole on top was fabulous darling. I know it’s a simple dish but it really was quite something. Then rolled up beef and chicken taco’s, followed by a cup of meat and vegetable soup.
I’m full !
As we waited for our meals somewhere along the line “The List" was mentioned. Whose list these peeps were on we wont mention but some of those that made the list were Johnny Depp, Ethan Hawke, Jimmy Fallon, Penelope Cruise, Zac Efron and a young Jennifer Connolly - you know who you are.
There was no fear of running out of silverware as it’s was provided in abundance as you can see here. This being
for one person only.
The meals arrived, but just before a new word was invented by Paige. The "Rigorness" of it all made Paige realize that she was in fact temperamental. We’ll who isn’t ?
Served, as ordered, was Chicken Mole, Chicken Salsa Verde, Salmon something, Carne Asada (Paige were they out of bacon ?) and more vermouth Margaritas.
As full as many of us were by now we dug in. Solid mexican fare but the company and atmosphere won.
Have another Aaron. That liqueur was after all on the house.
From what I remember this was the only desert option which I didn't taste because it was banana & yes I hate bananas
When the conversation turned to rats, cockroaches and Kevin running downstairs with a mouse in a jar it was time to go.
Fun times again at Züpper, not to be confused......
