WTFlore!

Flore is a great vegan restaurant in Silverlake, one of many places we frequent on Sunset Blvd, that even a carnivore will love (Alan can attest to that). Fresh juices, fresh and full salads and a wide choice of sandwiches and mexican style entrees. They do have their share of "fake" meats made of they seitan, tofu and garden burger variety, is the nostalgia for meat really that strong? Well, F is for Fake afterall. But its so good! You wonder why you dont eat like this all the time. Raw at flore is remarkably food like - not like those crazy avocado almond butter pie's our raw gurus have made us before.

I could live off of one 'The Salad' and one 'Basic Green' juice per day- there's so much on it its basically lunch and dinner together.

The Salad, its the salad that no matter how much you have eaten, its still there, is it growing? Its a grazing paradise of beets, tofu, sprouts, hummus and edamame.

The Basic Green Juice. Kale, Celery, Parsley, Apple and Lemon, a meal in liquid form, and so refreshing. By the end of the evening we had way to many glasses, due to the BYOB policy and our thirsty crowd.

I think between our party of 7 we had 20 glasses. Juices were shared along with home made ginger ale that was outrageously good and basic Vons wine (La Crema is apparently the best bet).

All of our dishes and glasses serviced by our very cute and tall waiter, who handled a couple of busy tables inside and out simultaneously- always with a smile.

As usual there were stories to be shared while we gorged ourselves. Most interesting tales of the intoxicating effect of a dinner at El Bulli, in Spain, where after a 21 course chef's tasting meal one wants to rip your partners clothes off and have sex in the parking lot.

Uh, can we go there next?

We ate even more kale, crispy this time- which was kind of like kale chips. Salty! Again I feel my hand reaching for the glass. My Basmanti brown rice bowl was perhaps a little too salty, are vegans making up with salt? Can we get some more water? And why is seitan so rubbery, what is that stuff?

And of course it wouldn't be right to not have at least one Flore Burrito- which according to our resident Texan is way better with the special hot sauce. Which was hiding between all the glasses for the first half.

For dessert we tried them all, except the bundt cake. And we wholeheartedly conclude that the chocolate vanilla cupcake is the best- and what is that crazy salty frosting. Approved, and delicious but still that is pretty nuts.

The deserts definitely helped in yet another naming workshop for yet another biz by Paige. Rural? Is that too hard to catch as it rolls of the tongue or rather falls out of your mouth with cupcake crumbs following behind? Rifle? What kind of double entendre blind spot do you have Paige? Or perhaps you should just call it Central - or better yet put out a banner that says now with Central air. Oh wait a minute, a banner, no!

WTF! The tragedy is that Flore had indeed caught the banner virus, which is our experience is not a good sign.
Announcing 'NOW WITH CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING', which on this chilly evening gave us a laugh, but truly we are worried. We hope they will reconsider and take down the banner before it becomes a fixture on their otherwise sweet and simple awning. No banner is a good banner, especially one that showcases icicle font. And after all that good for you food too.
