C is for Carousel!

Carousel! (That's spelled with lots of Muhammara) Amazing Armenian food deep in the heart of Glendale.

Westsiders crossing the 405 force field? Only at their own risk. And Voila! flat tire. How many westsiders does it take to change a tire. But they don't need AAA because "they are three strong men!"

beautiful ambiance, soft glowing light, and an empty stage with a drum set Manish was just dying to try. Weekends are a big deal at Carousel, major band and a troupe of belly dancers. I've been on a weekend before but was squeezed out to the porch. It's nice out there if you like the hub-bub of Brand St., Glendale. Some would say it's just like Abbot Kinney. They'd be wrong.

Make sure you ask for Ara Minassian as your waiter; he guided us skillfully through the family style menu with a dynamite smile. He advised against the "feast" so we selected a couple notches down from there. "Pick one that only has 9 appetizers and remember to save room for the main course" Later he shared his top 20 songs of all time - a list on his iphone....
20.  "Creep"- Radiohead
19.  "Old Man" - Neil Young
18. "Manic Depression" - Jimi Hendrix
17. "Redemption Song" - Bob Marley
16. "Rasputin" - Boney M
15. "Don't Think Twice its Alright"  - Bob Dylan
14. "Imagine" - John Lennon
13. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen
12. "46 and 2" - Tool
11. "Dear Prudence" - The Beatles
10. "Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd
 9. "The Soft Parade" - The Doors
 8. "Paranoid Android" - Radiohead
 7. "Sympathy for the Devil" - The Rolling Stones
 6. "LA Woman" - The Doors
 5. "H"- Tool
4  "Bring it on Home" Led Zeppellin
 3. "Freedom" - Rage Against the Machine
 2. "The Lemon Song" - Led Zeppelin
 1. "Time" - Pink Floyd

Time for Muhammara! This may be the only excuse you need to visit Carousel. Crushed walnuts, pomegranate juice, and red pepper. Definitely the best in the city.

you think you've had falafel? Not really, until you've had these little falafel pillows. Utterly amazing.

Don't forget the little footballs (kefta) with pine nuts!
the food just keeps coming, another appetizer?

Finally, after essentially a dinner and a half of appetizers: the main course of kebabs. Lamb, chicken, beef, and a ground beef/lamb combination. I think most of us got carried away and had no room left. Maybe appetizers shouldn't be too good?

how delicious and satisfying.

uh oh... Linda says "too much".

Now that the food was taken care of, Manish began musing about the top 20 list. "Have you heard Elvis' cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water". He pulled it up on his iphone. I have to agree, Astonishing.

good conversation, elegant dining...

even though we are full, we cant stop! pistacio crumble on a special cookie!

the founders of Carousel, grandma and grandpa!

Goodbye Carousel! Hello "D"?
